Encanto Golf Course: Local Rules and Information

Play governed by the USGA Rules of Golf and by the following Local Rules and Definitions where applicable. Disregard any local Rules printed on the club scorecard.

  • TEES: TIPS and/or WHITE

  • GOLF BALLS: The ball the player uses shall be named on the current “List of Conforming Golf Balls” of the USGA. Posted at the starting tees.

  • SECOND BALL: Rule 3-3 Doubt as to procedure – If you are doubtful of your procedure – play a second ball and report the facts to the committee before you sign your scorecard.

  • LATE TO TEE: Rule 6-3a provides: “The player shall start at the time laid down by the Committee”. The penalty for breach of Rule 6-3a is disqualification. However, it is a condition of the competition that if the player arrives at his/her starting point ready to play, within five minutes after his/her starting time, in the absence of circumstances which warrant waiving the penalty as provided in Rule 33-7, the penalty for failure to start on time is two stokes at the first hole in stoke play instead of disqualification.

  • LIFTING AN EMBEDDED BALL: The “EMBEDDED BALL RULE” as written in Appendix 1 is in effect “through the green”.

  • OUT OF BOUNDS: Defined by inside edge of white stakes and/or property fence posts at ground level. When out of bounds is fixed by a white line on the ground, the line itself is out of bounds. The driving range is out of bounds defined by white stakes inside the fence. If your ball comes to rest against the fence, the fence is an immovable obstruction, proceed under Rule 24 for relief.

  • GROUND UNDER REPAIR: Areas enclosed with white lines and French drains, Rule 25-1. Inside concrete border of canal defines out of bounds on #5 & #17. The Pump House on #16 is out of bounds.

  • OBSTRUCTION: White lined areas tying into artificially surfaced roads or paths are declared to have the same status as the roads i.e., they are obstructions, not ground under repair. Relief without penalty is provided under Rule 24-2b (1). The course side of the driving range fence is considered an immovable obstruction.

  • STONES IN BUNKERS: May be treated as movable obstructions. Rule 24 –1

  • WATER HAZARDS: Defined by yellow lines and/or stakes. Lateral water hazards defined by red lines and/or stakes.

  • PRACTICE: (A) At putting green of hole played prohibited –Appendix 1.

  • STAKED TREES: If lie of ball, stance and/or area of intended swing is interfered with by the stake attached to a tree, the stake and/or rope/wire is treated as an immovable obstruction. Relief without penalty from the tree itself is not permitted.

  • DEVICES: that measure distance only are allowed in this event. The use of devices that might affect a player’s play (e.g. wind or gradient) are not permitted. Breach of Rule 14-3 is disqualification.
